I look at the policies Barack Obama has tried to pursue, and I see:
- Mitt Romney’s 2006-vintage health-care policy.
- George H.W. Bush’s 1990-vintage foreign policy.
- John McCain’s 2008-vintage global-warming policy.
- Bill Clinton’s 1998-vintage tax policy
- Ronald Reagan’s 1982-vintage fiscal-stimulus-in-recession policy.
These aren’t large policy gulfs [with respect to traditional Republican positions].
So where, then, does the polarization come from?
