The northeastern United States was cold but the northern latitudes were overall quite warm last month.  From NASA:

For the graphics above “temperature anomaly” is relative to a 1951-1980 baseline, not to a pre-industrial baseline which is commonly used for many global-warming-related charts.  1951-1980 was a few tenths of a degree C warmer than the latter.
