Bruce Bartlett for Treasury Secretary

I don’t know anything about Jacob Lew.  Perhaps he’s a great choice.  I do know that Bruce Bartlett has Gov’t experience and has provided well-reasoned analyses of economic matters for as long as I’ve been reading him.  For example, recent commentaries:

  • On tax increases
  • On deficit reduction (I think he fails to mention a few key things but it’s a thoughtful commentary.)
  • On the social safety net (Again, I disagree with him on some of it – Reagan did not seek to manage the social safety net properly or to fund it adequately – but he makes the strong argument for a good safety net.  Bottom line:  “The welfare state was devised to shave off the rough edges of capitalism and make it sustainable.”)

Government experience, thoughtful assessment of public policy, and – based on my readings – not inclined to suck up to Wall Street.  I think he’d do a fine job.  Spread the word.
